Villawood Immigration Facility
JBS&G was engaged to undertake both above ground and below ground asbestos assessments, resulting in a site wide strategy for the safe removal and management of asbestos, as part of the redevelopment of the Villawood Immigration Detention Facility. The risk-based approach adpoted by JBS&G was overseen by various independent reviewers and followed strict national protocols. By limiting disturbance and minimising the volumes of waste materials requiring handling and disposal, the redevelopment proceeded in a manner which ensured the safety of all identified potential receptors including both the workforce and the broader community.
JBS&G above ground works included pre-demolition hazardous material surveys of the residential unit & surrounding buildings prior to planned demolition and redevelopment. At the time of the surveys, the building units were still occupied which introduced a significant number of constraints due to the sensitivity of the project. JBS&G were also engaged to conduct clearance inspections and asbestos air monitoring during removal & demolition of the buildings. This project was completed under strict time frame requirements.
